Owen Turned 2!

Good Morning To My Birthday Boy!

Good Morning Princess Brynn!

He had so much fun! He took a hour in a half nap at 10am after balloons, opening presents, and breakfast. Too much birthday and the day only started :) John Deere was the theme and boy he was living a dream come true! Brynn was so cute all day celebrating with him and totally excited for him. They love each other so much. What more could a mother hope for?

Catching Up

It has been awhile and a lot has happened since my last post. Owen got his red cast on and then we had Westernfest Trunk-or-Treat. It was a no brainer what to dress the kids up as. Brynn has been playing doctor the past month and with Owen in a cast he would be her patient. So Dr. Brynn wore her scrubs and Owen was the injured football player (wearing Uncle Jared's football jersey).
November 2nd, Owen had tubes put in both of his ears, which was definately needed after having 10 ear infections since birth. He had a little bit of a hard time coming out of anesthesia and was very fussy/cranky the 3 hours following. As of today he is a healthy boy and no more ear infections! Hooray!
November 15th, he had the cast taken off. Those 2 weeks of not getting his cast wet or dirty was the longest 2 weeks ever! But we made it and Brynn was a great big sister/doctor:) It didn't take Owen long before he was moving and using his arm. He even had the guts to jump on my bed that night (almost gave me a heart attack!) Should I be surprised? Nope, he is all boy! But we all made it through the first broken bones and pray there are no more.
November 19th, Owen ran a high fever of 102-103 that wouldn't go down even with Motrin and Tylenol in his system. I was a wreck all night worried about him. Finally I took him in the lukewarm shower with me and it brought his body temperature down. The next morning we see the white of his bottom right molar at the surface of his gums. It was a long week of no sleep and whiny neediness. It is now November 29th and it still hasn't cut through. At least he is in a better mood with a few painful cries in the middle of the night.

The First of Many

Monday morning I called to get Owen in for an appointment with his pediatrician with a hunch that he might have another ear infection or worse with all the congestion in his nose and chest. Brynn and Owen were on my bed watching a movie while I was braiding Brynn's hair. The next thing I knew Owen was getting off my bed and then all I heard was a loud crash. I initially thought from the sound of it that he cracked his head open since he caught the nightstand, but I didn't see any blood. He wouldn't stop crying though even when I was holding him. He kept saying "Owie" so I asked him what hurt and he pointed to his left wrist. That's when I knew he broke his arm. I was an emotional mess the rest of the day. We went to the pediatrician for his appointment and found out he had a sinus and ear infection. That makes it ear infection #10 since he was born, so we got a referral to see a specialist. Then we were referred to get x-rays done on his arm which turned out to be a fractured distal ulna and radius (wrist). The good news is that it is very mild. That alone relieved a lot of anxiety. So we went back to the pediatrician to get a splint and sling put on until Wednesday when Dr. Keith Braun (uncle Keith) put a cast on.

When Keith asked us what color we wanted Brynn replied "Pink" it was too cute but I had to explain that pink is a color only for girls :) So we chose red instead and Brynn calls it "Badger Red". I have to say I didn't know how I was going to take care of Owen all by myself this week while Brad was gone in Atlanta for work, on top of trying to make sure Brynn felt loved and important because of how much attention Owen needed from me. But Owen was a trooper, he went about his days as if nothing ever happened and there wasn't a cast on his arm. Brynn survived the week but is loving having daddy home. I am exhausted but I still have a lot more ahead of me so I will keep plugging away. This coming Tuesday Owen has surgery to put tubes in his ears because his left ear still has fluid in it and it is really bad compared to his right ear. Then we are teething again, the bottom right molar is cutting through and tylenol just doesn't cut it, but because of the surgery no motrin for Owen. November 15 the cast comes off and that will be enough thank you, especially with the holidays around the corner. At least no more ear infections for my kids and hopefully no more broken bones (in my perfect imaginative little world).

Teeth and Infections

Not only have I been dealing with my wisdom teeth being pulled and the lovely infection that decided to appear; Owen poked through 2 molars, 1 left bottom tooth and working on the right bottom tooth, along with a really bad ear infection that took more than 10 days to clear because the first antibiotic didn't work and the second was so strong he was having reactions to it but it is now all cleared up; then the biggest news of all is that Brynn finally poked through her bottom left 2 year molar (still waiting on the others)! Needless to say our house has been a little tired, cranky, irritable, and emotional. Gotta love it! But I can say now that I understand the pain teeth cause little ones :(
